CHRONIC PAIN AND MENTAL BRUISES

Physical bumps and bruises are a part of life and usually heal quickly. Chronic pain can be caused by unresolved spiritual and mental bruises.

As we experience life, relationships and the world around us, our mind collects memories, beliefs and emotions. These memories, beliefs and emotions promote either good or not so good physical health.

The stories told me by hurting and physically ill individuals have caused me to agree with Dr. Caroline Leaf. Her book, “Switch on Your Brain, The Key to Peak Happiness, Thinking and Health,” describes a plan for eliminating toxic thinking causing pain and illness.

Dr. Henry W. Wright has researched spiritual roots of diseases. His scriptural advice concerning physical and mental health is described in his book, “A More Excellent Way.” Included are many amazing stories of healing. I’ve had opportunities to encourage others with his hope giving insights.

Lisa shared with me, “ My sister has been on narcotic pain killers for years to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis. Now she’s becoming forgetful and falls.” I asked, “Does she have any self-bitterness or lack of love for herself?” Lisa replied, “Even though she was a successful employee, she was always down on herself because she was overweight. Yes, I would say she has a poor self-image.”

Monica shared, “My rheumatoid arthritis pain is almost unbearable now.” I asked, “Who aren’t you forgiving; yourself, others, God?” She replied, “It’s interesting you ask that. I’ve been having dreams where I’m really angry at others. I wake up feeling guilty about my anger.”

There is hope for relief of pain and chronic illness when God’s prescription for healing is applied. Jesus suffered unimaginable pain, wounding and death so we can experience radiant health. Would you consider the pain relieving truth of God’s words for you and others?

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
(KJV: Proverbs 14: 30)

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (NKJV: 3 John 1: 2)

Pay attention, my child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don’t lose sight of my words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they bring life and radiant health to anyone who discovers their meaning.
(NLT: Proverbs 4:20 – 23)
