TOXIC MEMORIES, TRAUMA AND PRAYER

Elsa woke from a restful sleep free of the fibromyalgia pain she experienced for years. She sensed waves of Jesus’ love washing over her as she reflected on the healing events of the past 24 hours.

The invitation to attend a ladies retreat with mostly strangers was intimidating. But, healing prayer was listed on the schedule. Elsa recognized her tug of war thinking.

“I can allow fear of rejection and the unknown keep me home. Or, I can go expecting some freedom from the anger I feel toward my adulterous ex-husband.”

The food was tasty and the fellowship warm. The corporate worship, including song and meditation, brought welcome peace. So far, the retreat felt safe and nurturing.

Teaching followed explaining the process of inviting Jesus into toxic memories and allowing him to heal with loving truth.

Elsa reasoned, “I’m tired of emotional and physical pain. I want to move forward without torment and enjoy a new chapter of life without having the old chapter interrupt my peace.”

With courageous transparency Elsa said to the ladies, “Help me please. I need some guidance and prayer as I meet with Jesus.”

The ladies prayed as Elsa invited Jesus into several traumatic and toxic memories concerning the betrayal and belittling of her ex-husband. She was led to forgive him, the ladies he had affairs with and herself.

Jesus communicated truth to her heart. The belittling was a lie meant to manipulate her to believe she was the cause of his affairs. Elsa was innocent. The ladies prayed for pain, shame and guilt to be removed from her memory of toxic events.”

Because Elsa embraced Jesus divine healing, she quickly experienced freedom from physical and emotional pain associated with traumatic memories. Elsa’s ex-husband wasn’t the real enemy. It was evil seducing her husband and then her.

If thieves were caught robbing valuables from your home, wouldn’t you quickly expel them? How much more should we clean out and guard the home of our soul from destroying invaders? How? Ask Jesus to expose lies. Take responsibility and renounce the lies and embrace his truth in your thinking.

Live daily in God’s word and presence. His truth and presence keep thieves from reclaiming thoughts and emotions. Isn’t the joy and freedom experienced worth the process? Feel free to comment.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. (NLT: Romans 8: 1 – 2)

For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
(NLT: Ephesians 6: 12 – 13)
