Kingdom Thankfulness and Health

There’s always the choice to take things into my own hands or wait for the Kingdom Commander to provide.

My initial search for a new or used bookshelf turned up pricey or poor-quality items. But the searching taught me what style, quality, color, and price range I could expect if I waited. Sure enough, I knew it when I saw it.

The real wood, light-colored oak, meant to be a dining buffet cabinet was perfect and in my price range. Heavy books wouldn’t topple it over. The search for a winter work jacket finally produced a used REI brand jacket, in great condition for 1/10th the cost of a new one.

Upon receiving these items, it felt good to thank God. He’s the One giving the patience to wait and wisdom where to look. Thankfulness causes good endorphins to pump more life into the blood. Physically, my body was responding with greater health.

I don’t deny there are great struggles going on in the world affecting us all. Reality tells me that despite hopeful expectations, things could get worse. But I know I belong to God’s Kingdom right here and now. He’s guiding me for better or for worse.

My identity as the Lord’s child is deepening. Hopes fulfilled, signal my mind to trust Him, no matter what. And when my time comes to leave this earth, I will enjoy the greater fullness of His heavenly Kingdom.

CONSIDER:

Who or what does your identity rest in and whose kingdom do you belong to? Can you be thankful when things are not as you’d like them to be as well as when things are good?

Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his miracles.
Search for the LORD and for his strength, and keep on searching. Think of the wonderful works he has done, the miracles, and the judgments he handed down,(NLT: 1 Chronicles 16: 9,11,12)
