SWORD OF PEACE

WHY???? Why persist in valuing one people-group over another as if their ideas and beliefs are more valuable? We are all the same blood, created in the image of God, for the same purpose.

If you believe that statement, then you should take to heart this – As Joshua approached the city of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man facing him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you friend or foe?”  “Neither one,” he replied. “I am commander of the LORD’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”(NLT: Joshua 5: 13 – 14)

On the eve of the battle of Jericho, God wanted Joshua to obey Him alone. Not the people of Israel or Jericho. Joshua’s circumstances were different than ours today but God’s principles never change. We are to obey God first.

I sense many choosing sides. Choices based on Biblical principles and beliefs promote what matters to God. I agree with Frances Chan’s thoughts – Whenever I read the Bible and come across something I disagree with, I have to assume I’m wrong.

God desires we seek Him and His ways by loving all people through God’s principles and practices. He alone is our commander in chief no matter who’s in leadership. Then God-fearing peace follows.

WHY????  Why can’t we stop choosing sides and start engaging in loving Him first?

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. (NLT: 1 Thessalonians 5: 23)
