My body aches all over, I think I’m burning up.
When I try to eat something, My belly says nuh-uh!
Who wants to get colds or the influenza virus this year? Not me. So, I’m intentionally preparing my body, mind and spirit to resist those nasty germs.
Summer tends to offer more healthful sunshine, delicious fruits and salads, vacations, relaxed restful schedules, and time with people we enjoy. The preceding ingredients help to build a healthy immune system capable of warding off illness.
Often, when fall and winter comes, more sedentary time is spent indoors. We watch our electronic devices and stress over work, kids grades, elections, holidays and maybe football. Foods are often richer in empty calories and fewer in disease fighting anti-oxidants.
All these combined can bring the perfect storm for immune system decline and an illness event. I’ve also learned a great danger to my health is allowing negative emotions to rob my peace.
When I allow fear or resentment to consume my thoughts, the aftermath is sometimes headache, backache, cold sores, sniffles or unwanted fatigue. When I resist negative words and actions trying to steal my mental hope and joy, my body’s natural defense systems work to prevent disease.
Resisting and sweeping my mind clean of negative attitudes is the first step. The second step is filling my mind and spirit with wise words from God.
“I don’t believe in all that spiritual stuff,” you say. My response to you, “Try it. What can it hurt? As I read and act on God’s words in the Bible and in quiet, restful meditation, His divine health is released in me.”
Consider starting your day reading a Psalm or Proverb from The Message Bible. It’s an easily understood translation sure to bring you a good chuckle, a sigh of relief, welcome direction and improved health. Talk to God about what you read and listen as He responds in your heart. And stay peacefully well my friends.
Those who control their anger have great understanding; those with a hasty temper will make mistakes. A relaxed attitude lengthens life; jealousy rots it away. (NLT: Proverbs 14: 29 – 30)
Pay attention, my child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don’t lose sight of my words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they bring life and radiant health to anyone who discovers their meaning. Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. (NLT: Proverbs 4: 20 – 23)
