DO YOU NEED HIM?

Why does the Christmas story cause such discord? So what a baby was born in a barn, receiving shepherds and gifts from affluent eastern visitors. Jesus grew up in poverty with the stigma of being an illegitimate child of an adulterous woman. His stories were filled with instructions to humbly care for others, forgive, and receive the power to do this by trusting the one true God, His Father.

Ohhh, there’s the conflict. Jesus claimed supernatural lineage and authority over all men. He foretold His tortured death and directed students to wait for His Spirit to visit them after He died. How bizarre is that?

But it all happened as predicted. History and archeology prove the Bible. He knew who He was, why He was sent, and what He was to accomplish for me, yes, and for you.

I was taught His story as a child but didn’t understand a personal need. When I experienced the nagging guilt of wrongdoing, the pain of poor choices, and the absence of purpose in my life, I knew I needed Him. I needed His truth. His words led to His presence in my life.

Freedom from guilt came with His words. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. (NLT: Romans 8: 1 – 2)

Wisdom for life choices came through God’s words. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality. (NLT: Proverbs 3: 6 – 8)

The realization that I needed God’s Spirit to know daily His love, acceptance, and direction brought surrender to His will. This love relationship empowers my peace-filled obedience. Jesus replied, “All those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and live with them. (NLT: John 14: 23)

The Spirit of God and His words in me are the anchor of discernment and strength I need during these last days of chaos and religious persecution. Do you need Him?
