FOOD THAT DOESN’T TALK BACK

I knew my digestive system was going to tell me it wasn’t happy with the cheesy lasagna and cream cheese frosting carrot cake.  I managed to say no to the white bread and included lots of the fresh green salad served at the fabulous women’s event.

I just happen to have a gallbladder that loves fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat proteins and high fiber carbohydrates. Processed carbs, sugar and saturated fats talk back. So, I went home, drank lots of water, ate a huge green salad and escaped with only a little discomfort.

There’s another food that never talks back. Sometimes I don’t favor the taste but as I chew on it, I begin to see its benefit.  Reading God’s words in the Bible gives me wisdom and direction, reminds me to forgive and leaves me with a thankful disposition. Prayer, or conversation with God, naturally flows after reading powerful truth.

I heard Pastor Bill Johnson say recently, “People say they don’t read the Bible because they can’t remember what they read. I can’t remember what I ate several days ago but the food still nourished me. People say they fall asleep when they pray. What parent is disappointed when their child falls asleep in their arms while having a conversation?”

Because God and I have a history in regard to conversation together, I knew not to fear the food I ate that day. His word tells me not to fear and to call on him when I’m in trouble. So, that’s what I did. His words of wisdom continue to teach me how to take care of my physical body and spiritual soul. When I listen and obey, I’m richly nourished.  His food is truly the best comfort food I’ve ever tasted!

How sweet are your words to my taste; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding. (NLT: Psalms 119: 103 – 104)

I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. (KJV: Job 23: 12)
