You notice someone juggling too many things in their arms and you say, “Can I give you a hand?” Why? Because you care, you want to ease their burden.
Years of nursing has trained me to notice when someone debilitated is struggling to safely get to their destination. So extending a steadying hand I ask, “May I help?” Why? Because I know the potential for injury when one is debilitated and lacks needed assistance.
We’ve all said it while crossing a street or parking lot with a young child, “Take my hand.” Why? Because we know the youngster many times lacks wisdom to identify danger and respond quickly to avoid the danger.
What prevents us from taking the hand of the One with all knowledge, power, love, and is everywhere at all times? The One who created this amazing world and all life in it. The One who offers his hand to all without prejudice or judgment.
I believe it’s that, “I’ll do it my way”, kind of pride that pushes away God’s hand extended in love. I know cause I’ve done it with not so good results. I’m getting better at reaching for his extended hand wanting to help and protect.
How have you responded when he’s said to you, “Can I give you a hand?” He extends his hand hoping you will accept him because he delights in every detail of your life. He delights in you.
The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives.Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.
(NLT: Psalms 37: 23 – 24)
But to all who believed Jesus and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! This is not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan–this rebirth comes from God. So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.(NLT: John 1: 12 – 14)
