After watching the inspirational movie, “Peaceful Warrior”, I was curious to know the source of the principles bringing the main character success.
The main character, a gifted, prideful, and selfish athlete, received a new understanding of success after suffering a bone shattering accident. Submitting to the teaching of a friend, he learned to become a servant while he engaged in the process of personal development.
His ultimate goal in life was no longer the sought after gold medal. He learned to focus on the moment and enjoy it no matter his circumstances.
In real life, this athlete went on to accomplish tremendous success in his field of athletics and as an author/educator. The movie dialogue inferred the source of this man’s success was changed thinking causing his true inner strength and capability to be fully released.
After researching this man’s website, I concluded a humanistic philosophy was considered the source of the principles guiding him to a more peaceful place of warring for his success.
The following is a description of humanism from the American Humanist Association, “Humanism is a progressive lifestance that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead meaningful, ethical lives capable of adding to the greater good of humanity.”
Notice the definition says without theism or supernatural beliefs. Humanism excludes God from the amazing miracle and abilities of the human body, mind and spirit.
What rational individual excludes the Creator and source of all wisdom when celebrating success in life? Yes, great achievements can be made in this world while denying God’s existence.
But the source of this wise and powerful energy planted within man comes from the God who created man and all that is good on the earth. When man gives God the credit for life’s achievements, man is promised even greater health and vitality.
I’m all for pursuing an ethical character and principles promoting the human good. But a society obliterating God as the source of its foundational beginnings and ongoing success tends to nurture entitled and ungrateful future generations. History records these societies eventually fail.
What can be done to counter the Godless part of humanism? You can acknowledge with gratefulness, God is the source of his amazing creation in and around you.
Seek more of God’s presence and understanding of the happenings in the world. Learn to communicate why you believe God is the source of all that is good. Then without shame or fear, share this good news.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality. (NLT: Proverbs 3: 5 – 8)
