UNFORCED RHYTHMS OF GRACE

If you were one of those little south Florida lizards that managed to sneak into our Florida Keys home, you might witness several loving moments between husband and wife. Wiping the sleep out of my eyes as I wander to the kitchen, I often find Joel pouring his coffee. Our morning embrace might turn into a spontaneous dance, as we sway together in silent rhythms that set a tone of unity for the day. New Year’s resolutions are not something that I ascribe to but requests for undeserved divine assistance regarding my personal well being has produced in me great advancement in the area of personal peace. After reading Matthew 11:28-30 in The Message Bible, I have determined to request more unforced rhythms of grace in my life. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Picture yourself, cradled in His arms, moving gently together following His lead. Listening for His quiet voice telling you how glad He is to have your time and attention, because He so loves you. As pressures of the day increase, you find Him picking you up in the dance and lifting you over the difficulties. The trouble might be real and the aftermath complicated but He has not let go, still directing and protecting in His unforced rhythms of grace.
